Jeremy Jones… The King of Big Mountain Riding

On my flight home from Arizona over Thanksgiving, my brother gave me his laptop and told me to watch this snowboarding documentary…little did I know it would change my life. The documentary was the third of a trilogy about a man named Jeremy Jones.

Jeremy Jones is a big mountain free-rider who does whatever he wants on whatever mountain he wants haha. He used to be a racer and almost qualified for the Olympics when he was  younger, but had a change of heart and started riding big mountains instead. He is an inspiration to anyone who has a love for the outdoors and is willing to try new things.

In his documentary series, he climbed Mt. Everest and camped on it for over a month just to make one run down the face of the mountain. For him, it is about the adventure…not the glitz and glam some athletes go for (cough cough Shaun White).  He is known as the pioneer of professional big mountain riding and has led the way for many other riders that want to follow his path.

Jones has created his own snowboarding brand called Jones Snowboards, and is notorious for sponsoring up and coming riders to take under his wing and introduce them into the crazy world of big mountain riding.  He is also the founder of Protect our Winters (POW), which our last featured rider Danny David belongs to as well.

Jeremy is an incredible human who breaks the boundaries what someone would think is possible for the sport of snowboarding…and for that I thank him!

An inside look on X-Games winner Danny Davis

When I was younger I thought snowboarding was all about big tricks and winning competitions. But as I’ve gotten older and have had more experience riding- I’ve realized that that isn’t the case at all.  The true testament of my theory is the winner of the 2015 X-Games being Danny Davis. He is the epitome of a rider that stays true to what snowboarding was originally about- having style while having fun.

Danny Davis is from Michigan, but has been riding the slopes in California for a while now. His signature style is his ease of riding and original tricks that have been forgotten about ever since Shaun White started pulling tricks that are all technical with no style. He won the X-Games for the second year in a row this year and his winning run was less technical than Shaun Whites, but his style is what set him apart.

People adore Danny’s passion for snowboarding and his involvement with the snowboarding community. He created a music festival called “The Friendly Gathering” which is inspired by the love of snowboarding and music. He is also an ambassador of Protect our Winters (POW) where he fights against climate change.

Danny is one of my favorite riders and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him. I admire his love for life and snowboarding and I’m sure many others do too. By following his instagram account, I get to see the trips he goes on to different countries and dream of one day being able to travel to them and do the same thing he does.
